Vylyan (Villány Region)

The name of the estate was picked in respect of tradition, "Vylyan" is an old name of Villány from the 15th century. The first vineyard was planted in 1992 and from that moment on quality was the most important aspect in growing grapes. This philosophy reflects in the wines, great wine can only be made from good grapes. In 2008 the winery was picked to be "Cellar of the Year".

ÖRDÖG RED BLEND 2013 (13.5%)

From this winery we brought a nice red blend Ördög (Devil). The nose of this red wine is full of fruity scents: black currant, rosehip and raspberry. The palate is more temperamental but refreshing and full-bodied, complemented by a hint of blackthorn in the lingering taste. Perfect match with Hungarian cuisine, Italian pastas and medium cheeses.

The protagonist of the following legend inspired this wine: a very old lady, most likely a witch lived in the area and she had a beautiful daughter named Harka. Harka was so beautiful that even the Devil himself fell in love with her and wanted her for himself. The old lady told the Devil that if he plows the stony outcrop of the local mountain before the roosters wake up in the morning he can marry Harka. The Devil didn't say neither yes nor no but in the evening he put 6 black cats to work (black cats are the Devil's best friends) and started plowing the mountain. At midnight the old lady went to check on him and saw that he was almost done. She got very scared, ran to the chicken coop and started crowing like a madman. All the roosters of the area woke up and also started crowing. When the Devil heard the roosters crow he got angry and never realized he had been tricked. He dropped the plough and dug himself into the ground. Since then there has been a hot, sulphuric spring running from the spot where the Devil disappeared.
